Prince Harry Was "In Tears" Over His Frogmore Cottage Eviction

The Duke of Sussex felt that "it was purely vindictive."

Following the release of Prince Harry's memoir Spare last year, the formal senior royal and his wife Meghan Markle were evicted from Frogmore Cottage. Although they don't spend much time in the U.K., Harry was reportedly very upset by King Charles's decision.

"At the time, few people realized what a slap in the face the eviction from Frogmore felt like for Harry. It was the last straw," royal author Tom Quinn told the Mirror.

"Harry was absolutely furious and in tears about being evicted from Frogmore," Quinn added. "He felt his father had no right to do it and that it was purely vindictive. Harry couldn't see that choosing to stop being a working royal would inevitably mean being deprived of his royal residence. Harry took it as a cruel rejection."

Harry and Meghan moved to the United States in 2020 after taking a step back from their royal duties. However, they would still use their former home when visiting the U.K. The prince even stayed at Frogmore last year when he was dealing with his lawsuit against the British tabloids.

The decision to evict Harry and Markle allegedly came one day after the release of the duke's bombshell book, per Marie Claire. Later, royal expert Omid Scobie wrote in his book Endgame that Princess Anne was the one who "persuaded" King Charles to pull the trigger and kick the couple out. According to Scobie, Anne was "at the forefront of the supporters of the firm approach," while their brother, Prince Edward, was more "uneasy" about it.

The couple was also reportedly "shocked" to learn about their eviction, and Prince Harry went to his father and asked, "Do you want to see your grandchildren again?" per Scobie's book.

Harry and Markle were officially moved out of the residence last summer. “This eviction surely spells the end of Harry and Meghan’s time in the U.K.,” a source told The Sun in March 2023. However, Harry has since traveled to the U.K., most recently after King Charles announced his cancer diagnosis earlier this year.

Harry was set to return to his homeland once again in May for The Invictus Games 10th anniversary celebrations. However, The Express is now reporting that he may not make the trip if he isn't provided proper security. "Whenever Harry travels to the U.K., his trips are always dependent on how secure he is," a source said. "Before deciding whether to attend the Invictus Games anniversary event, his security team must be sure that St. Paul’s is adequately protected by the metropolitan police and his own security needs are met while he’s in London."
