Nigel Wright, the prime minister’s former chief of staff, speaks to CTV reporter

Never underestimate the persistence of a reporter chasing a quote.

On Tuesday morning, CTV's Daniele Hamamdjian literally chased down Nigel Wright — the prime minister's now-former chief of staff — during his daily 4 a.m jog.

"I'm going to first of all give my submissions to the ethics commissioner, she's going to look into this and I think I can stand behind everything I did," Wright told Hamamdjian.

"I made some mistakes, I'm living with the consequences of those mistakes, but I believe I can account for my actions and I think that's the right forum for it."

Hamamdjian then asked if Senator Mike Duffy just called him one day and said 'Nigel, I need $90,000.'

Instead of answering, Wright graciously thanked the reporter for her questions and continued on with his morning run.

We hadn't heard from the prime minister's now-former Chief of Staff Nigel Wright since he released a statement, about 10 days ago, explaining that he was resigning for personally funding Duffy’s repayment of improperly-claimed living expenses.

Since then, the ethics commissioner in both the House of Commons and the Senate have launched investigations into the matter.

Meanwhile, this afternoon — for the first time since Wright resigned from the PMO — Prime Minister Harper is expected to be in the House of Commons to field questions from the opposition parties about the Senate expense scandal.

On Monday, opposition MPs chided Harper for not attending Question Period. As explained by The Hill Times, NDP MP Charlie Angus called him “peekaboo” leader and accused him from hiding from accountability.

Tuesday's QP should be a raucous affair.

It starts at 2:15 p.m. (EST) and can be viewed live on CPAC.
