Obama delivers on promise, sends Stephen Harper beer for losing Olympic hockey bet

U.S. President Barack Obama has proved to be a man of his word — at least when it comes to his sporting wagers.

As has become somewhat of a tradition between the two countries, Obama and Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper bet on the outcomes of the men's and women's Olympic hockey tournaments.

Canada, of course, was victorious in both.

On Monday, Obama paid up.

Harper — from a trade mission in South Korea — acknowledged receipt.

This is the second time that the President has had to hand over beer. He also did so in 2010. But, according to Harper, four years ago, he didn't keep the booze.

"He's lost bets to me before," Harper quipped on TSN 1050 last week.

"Last time what happened was then-U.S. ambassador Jacobson brought over this...good American beer...but President Obama had signed it. So I thought, 'oh geez I can't really keep this now, it's now got a signature of the President of the United States on it.' So we shipped it to the Hockey Hall of Fame for their collection."

It doesn't look like these bottles have any signatures.

Foreign Affairs Minster John Baird and U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry also made a bet. Kerry paid up quickly with some Samuel Adams beer with a pretty cool label.

You'll notice the 'proper' spelling of 'neighbour.'
