Germany’s largest ever baby born at more than 13 pounds

A German woman gave birth to the largest baby in the country's recorded history on Friday. And she's a very big girl.

New York Daily News reported baby Jasleen weighed 13 pounds 7.5 ounces and measured 22.6 inches long. Unlike many large babies, Jasleen was born that natural way rather than by caesarean section.

Her mother had gestational diabetes, according to reports, which can lead babies to grow large in the womb. Another baby born to an Indonesian mother with gestational diabetes in 2009 weighed a whopping 19 pounds 3 ounces, according to NBC News.

More recently, a baby girl born in Kittanning, Pa. weighed in at 13 pounds 12 ounces after she was born on July 11. She measured 25 inches long, according to WPXI.

The world record for heaviest birth, however, belongs to a Canadian woman known as a "giantess."

Anna Bates, born Anna Swan, gave birth to a 30-inch baby weighting 23 lbs 12 oz in 1879, but the baby died from complications 11 hours later, according to Guinness World Records.

Anna herself weighed 18 pounds when she was born in 1846, according to Library and Archives Canada. Her father had to modify her bed and expand her room to accommodate his rapidly growing daughter, who reached seven feet 11 inches tall in adulthood.
