Must-see videos of the week – Oct. 5

From a fictional animal having to look for real jobs to a real animal surviving being hit by a car, we've seen some amazing videos this week. Here are some of our favourites:

1. Big Bird responds after becoming debate star

It's hard to put together a must-see list this week without talking about one of the biggest issues - the potential firing of Sesame Street's Big Bird. Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney mentioned during the Wednesday debate with President Barack Obama that he is in favour of cutting funding to PBS, which airs Sesame Street, even though he loves Big Bird and Jim Lehrer. Many including Sesame Street took to Twitter with some funny lines and photos such as Big Bird holding a sign saying he'll work for food and that today's show "is brought to you by the letter U for Unemployment."

2. Woman scares off bear by yelling at it

Nishanto Grillo definitely isn't afraid of a black bear. When the bear walks up the deck stairs of her house she yells at it and amazingly it walks away. The footage is a part of a series of videos Nayana Grillo has posted of the bears hanging out on the property. Recent drought conditions have bears getting closer to humans as they look for food. One bear broke into a Colorado candy shop seven times through the front door to steal treats. A mother bear and her three cubs broke into a Norwegian cabin and reportedly drank more than 100 beers.

Jennifer Churchill of Colorado Parks and Wildlife told The Associated Press the drought is forcing the smart creatures to be even more resourceful. When they have success with finding food in unconventional ways they will return for more and may have to be put down.

3. 'Miracle' pooch rides wedged in car grill

A man driving in New England saw a dog dart into the road and slammed on his brakes. When he got out of the car to check for the dog he didn't see it so he kept driving hoping the dog made it safely to the other side. But 18 kilometres later someone flagged the driver down to let him know there was a dog stuck in the grill of his car. The driver went straight to police and they took the dog to the vet. Amazingly the dog only had minor injuries. Animal officials say Suzie has been reunited with her owner and the owner says he will keep her on a leash from now on, according to WCVB.

4. Anchor responds to viewer who called her fat

A TV anchor in Wisconsin became the story when she went on air to respond to an occasional viewer's email that said she was too fat to be a news anchor because she was not a suitable example for children. The anchor's reading of the email and response have gone viral and many people wrote on a Facebook page criticizing the bully. In an interview with ABC News a few days later, the man, Kenneth Krause, said he "never meant to hurt Jennifer" and can empathize with her because he was obese as a child and continues to fight the issue.

5. Awful attempt to steal couches

These thieves probably aren't the worst ever, but they certainly are far from good. They are trying to steal some couches in Northampton, England during broad daylight, but forgot to make sure the haul was in the van before driving away. I guess they didn't think they would be seen when they ran to the front of the vehicle to drive away because an employee was able to run up to the van and pull the couches out before the getaway.

At least these would-be robbers actually got away themselves. A would-be criminal in Massachusetts got his head stuck in a garage door while trying to break into a store and was stuck under the door for nine hours until an employee showed up the next morning for work and called the police.
