Parrot tricks police into breaking through Brockville, Ont. apartment door

This awesome parrot sings some Russian opera in the shower. Impressive stuff!

He was a little early for April Fool's Day, but a pet parrot in Brockville, Ontario duped police into forcing their way into an apartment on Sunday, according to the Brockville Recorder and Times.

When police burst through the door to help who they thought was a screaming woman, they discovered the victim was none other than Gobbler the macaw parrot.

The bird's owner, Mary Brown, had accidentally left the intercom in her apartment on, broadcasting Gobbler's squawking into the lobby and outside, where someone mistook it for screams of distress and called the police, according to the story.

Brown told the newspaper she had gone to sleep after a night shift at a health centre where she works as a nurse and she didn't respond to police, so they broke through the door.

Brown said she was terrified, while police said they were relieved to find out there was no medical emergency, only a bothersome bird. It was an emotional few minutes and a waste of police of resources, but it's all worth it when the Internet gets to meet a cute parrot.

The reporter seemed excited about his new friend.

In a video posted with the story, Ronald Zajac stood with the bird on his arm while discussing the story.

How Brown manages to sleep through a parrot squawking, sirens and police banging on the door is another question entirely.
