People’s embarrassing video confessions to be shown at Toronto subway stations

So far people have confessed to wetting the bed and still being in love with an ex

When most people want to confess a deep, dark secret they usually confide in a close friend, a therapist or a priest, but soon people will be doing it to more than a million Toronto transit riders.

So far about 100 people have spilled their secrets into moveable confession booths that have been in some Toronto neighbourhoods. The booth comes equipped with a camera and while people actually make their confessions in private, the video will be played on 300 TTC subway platform screens. The people's names won't be shown, but their faces will.

Some of the confessions so far include:

"I love my cat more than my boyfriend..."
"When I was 16 I gave up my child for adoption..."
"I still have a secret obsession with my ex and I'm engaged..."
"I wet the bed until I was thirteen years old..."
"My confession is I fart when I get nervous..."

The video booth also went to Montreal, Buffalo and Chicago to get confessions.

"What makes Confessions Underground so intriguing is that we all harbour secrets, and as we discovered, a lot of people really want the chance to confess that one secret." said John Loerchner, Co-Director of Labspace Studio, in a statement. "It's an exhilarating, frightening and potentially risky opportunity."

But he isn't only interested in seeing what people say. "After they stop talking, it's their facial expression," Loerchner told the Toronto Star. "You see their reaction to what they just said."

It's described as "part social experiment, part public intervention," according to the Confessions Underground website.

"I love the idea of commuters being privy to these confessions," said Sharon Switzer, Pattison Onestop Arts Programmer and Curator, in a statement. "We spend so much time imaging what others are thinking, and now with Confessions Underground, we will all get to find out."

Loerchner and co-director Laura Mendes will be accepting confessions until July 1 and the videos will show on platform screens between July 2 and 15 in more than 60 stations. The booth will be in Toronto's Kensington Market on June 28 from 5 - 8 p.m. if you want to make a confession.
