Saudi drivers embrace ‘sidewall skiing’ as latest extreme driving craze

Forget planking, the newest hobby among Saudi Arabians appears to be driving on highways while balancing a car on two wheels.

YouTube videos have been appearing that show cars tilted onto two wheels, speeding down roads with passengers standing on the car or hanging out of windows.

New York Daily News reports the videos emerged from Saudi Arabia, where stunts from action films have prompted this terrifying trend.

There's no need to tell you this is dangerous.

A video uploaded in February shows a passenger changing all four tires of a car while it speeds down a road on two wheels. The passenger leans out the open door to replace the tires by hand. The car is tilted so far sideways the viewer can see its entire underside.

However, commenters on YouTube point out the video was somehow altered, because at the 1:15 mark, a truck appears to disappear from the background.

An earlier video, posted in 2011, shows several people sitting on the outside of a tilted car with their legs dangling over the tires. One of them lies down, pretending to swim and do push-ups on the side of the hood.

This isn't the first sign of Saudi residents' penchant for dangerous driving. Last summer, media picked up on a trend among residents inspired by the Fast and the Furious films, called drifting.

Drivers spin out as crowds watch, sometimes with other traffic on the road, according to the Daily Mail.
