Sears employee fired after making racist comment to customer

It’s 2014, people — I thought we were trying to make racism a thing of the past.

Clearly this Sears employee didn’t get the memo.

When an altercation between an employee and a customer got out of hand in a Winnipeg Sears store, things got ugly. Lucky for us in this age of technology, it was all caught on camera.

Warning: The video contains graphic language.

According to CTV News, the employee had asked the customer to remove his child from a lawnmower display. That’s fair, right?

What ‘s not fair is the way the employee handled the situation, asking the customer if he “came off the boat.”

The enraged customer goes berserk ... and with good reason.

He starts screaming profanities, while following the employee around the store.

The customer, who is visibly sporting a backpack with the Canadian Flag stitched on the strap, does not let up.

He is extremely vocal in his efforts to make the employee see that his racist comment would not be tolerated and that he wants the employee fired.

Well, this customer certainly got what he wanted as the employee was fired on Monday after having been suspended for said comment.

“This is not the kind of behavior that is demonstrated by Sears people across Canada,” said Sears spokesman Vincent Power, apologizing on behalf of the company. “We concluded the majority of our investigation and have terminated the employee,” he said in an email to CTV News.

The video was posted to Facebook and gained nearly 700 likes, which launched a heated debate among users. Some believe the customer was out of line, and others vowed to never shop at Sears again.
