Double-leg amputee wows skateboarding world

When Italo Fernandes Romano was 13 years old, he lost his legs in a train accident. The young daredevil had been playing with friends, balancing between carriages, when he fell.

Now just 23, the Brazilian athlete is ranked as one of the best skateboarders in the world, wowing crowds at tournaments worldwide.

"When I first saw Italo I was amazed and I noticed, despite his disability, he had a great style," said Ricardo Porvo, a photographer who documented much of Romano's rise to fame.

"He learns new tricks so fast and is so loved in Brazil, I wanted others to see him," he added.

Even without legs, Romano performs "tricks that most people couldn't pull off," Asylum UK's Alastair Plumb remarks, calling the unstoppable athlete a hero.
