Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively visit Sudbury hospital

There was no red carpet, no eager reporters, and these gowns were far less glamorous than the ones usually seen on Hollywood A-Listers. But newlyweds Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively looked more than happy to be at a Sudbury, Ontario, hospital on the day of the Oscars ceremony in Los Angeles.

On Tuesday, the “Blake and Ryan Reynolds” Facebook page uploaded a photo album of the beautiful couple visiting Sudbury’s Health Sciences North's pediatric unit. Nine photos show the casually dressed husband and wife smiling with hospital staff, sick children in bed, and a pair of brand-new parents. In a few, 36-year-old Reynolds and 25-year-old Lively wear yellow hospital gowns, and in others they each take turns holding a newborn baby.

“I can tell you the visit was really appreciated by the kids, their parents, and the staff on the unit,” hospital spokesperson Dan Lessard wrote in the album description. “Mr. Reynolds and Ms. Lively were wonderful with the children.”

Vancouver-born Reynolds is currently in the Ontario city filming “Queen of The Night” with fellow Canucks actor Scott Speedman and director Atom Egoyan. Reynolds plays a father in search of his missing daughter, so perhaps this hospital visit was part of his research on the role?

Lively joined her husband in Sudbury earlier in February, but the pair has kept a low profile since and Reynolds’s publicity rep even asked Health Sciences North not to invite media to their visit. But patients and their friends and family were thrilled to meet the actors in person.

“Ryan and Blake were both very kind to us. They introduced themselves right away and asked how my son was doing,” said Sudbury resident Sarah Lavallee. “He is only 3 months old, and wasn't really able to appreciate the visit like the older children, but it's something I can tell him about when he is older.”

Lively has said she can’t wait to be a parent herself, telling Allure magazine, “I've always wanted a big family ... Oh, I'd love 30 [children] if I could.”

Either way, this benevolent visit is not only a boost to the families and staff at Health Sciences North, but further evidence that Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds might one day make adorable parents.
