Boat burns, crew OK in Notre Dame Bay

Three people are safe and sound on land this morning after their fishing boat caught fire in Notre Dame Bay.

A spokesperson for the Canadian Forces rescue co-ordination centre in Halifax said the fire started in the engine room aboard the 55-foot Triple Seven just before 6:30 a.m.

The spokesperson said the crew tried to put out it out, but was unable to douse the fire.

Instead, they called for help, put on their survival suits and got into a lifeboat.

Another vessel in the area picked up the mayday and rescued the crew.

The Triple Seven was believed to be still adrift in Notre Dame Bay.
