Calgary mom loses son on C-Train

Ksenia Druzhkin and her 5-year-old son were separated as they were boarding a C-Train, but her quick actions along with the driver resulted in the ordeal only lasting about 10 minutes.

A Calgary mom is urging parents to make sure they know how the transit help system works after she was separated from her five-year-old son while boarding a C-Train.

Ksenia Druzhkin said the C-Train left the Westbrook platform with the boy inside while she was trying to manage a stroller.

A passenger immediately alerted the driver through the help button while Druzhkin did the same on the platform.

Peter Monrose, the C-Train driver, says the boy wasn't scared or upset.

“I told him, ‘Come with me, we're going to be riding in my cab’ and on the way I talked to him — ‘What school do you go to, how old are you, what's your name,' and explained to him what all the dials were and he was pretty excited,” Monrose said.

Druzhkin says it was a scary experience for her until the two were reunited about 10 minutes later.

She credits transit officials and members of the public for stepping in quickly to help.
