CAQ candidate critical of Legault's stance on Anglos
A Coalition Avenir Québec candidate for the riding of Notre-Dame-de-Grâce sent a letter to all the party members saying that the party's leader François Legault is being ambiguous when it comes to the rights of anglophones.
In a letter addressed to "respected CAQ members," Angely Pacis called on Legault to clarify his position on English-speaking Quebecers.
She wrote "Mr. Legault needs to take a clear stand on what his treatment and approach will be towards the English-speaking community of Quebec if he aims to win a majority CAQ government."
Pacis goes on to say that "Legault has now left the impression that once in power, he will go forward with expanding and enforcing the powers of [Quebec's language watchdog] the OQLF to repress and punish business owners and families who transact in English."
Marlene Jennings, the former federal Liberal MP for the riding of Notre-Dame-de-Grâce-Lachine, said she agrees with Pacis and that the CAQ offers less than the Liberal Party for anglophone voters.
"I'm quite disappointed with the position that Mr. Legault has articulated that have a direct negative impact on the English-speaking minority communities."
