Cowboy stomped by bull in Calgary Stampede rodeo recovering
The top ranked bull rider in Canada is recovering from injuries after being trampled by a bull during the Calgary Stampede rodeo Thursday afternoon.
Aaron Roy from Yellow Grass, Sask., was thrown off Gretsky — an 860 kilogram bull. He was then stomped in the lower back and also suffered a broken jaw.
He was wearing a protective vest, but had to be taken from the grounds on a stretcher.
His friend Jason Davidson says Roy is able to move his feet.
"I want to call it a broken or fractured vertebrae. He had eight screws and two rods surgically put into his spine last night to help the healing process," he said. "At this point we don't know if those screws and rods will come out."
The injuries have forced Roy out the Stampede competition.
