Emily Blunt and the rest of The Devil Wears Prada cast is ready to close the chapter on Runway.

During an interview for the Happy Sad Confused podcast at The 92nd Street Y, New York, the Oppenheimer star, 40, said there’s “never” been real momentum at creating a sequel to the hit 2006 movie.

The Oscar nominee told host Josh Horowitz that the cast is “good” without making a sequel. “Sometimes things should be cherished and preserved in this bubble and it’s okay,” she explained.

“And I think – didn’t Meryl [Streep] say something funny about it? They asked her about it, ‘Would she ever do a sequel?’ and she went, ‘Yeah, if I don’t have to lose the weight.’ But I think she said ‘the f---ing weight,’ " recalled the actress.

Blunt was referring to her former costar's 2012 interview with Access Hollywood. "Sure, I mean, I'd have to lose the f------ weight, but I would do that, yeah," Streep said at the time, reported Elle.

The Devil Wears Prada starred Anne Hathaway as recent grad Andy, who gets a job at fashion magazine Runway working alongside Blunt's character, Emily. The two work together for the intimidating editor-in-chief Miranda Priestly, played by Streep, who earned an Oscar nomination for the role.

Even though Blunt shared where the cast currently stands on a sequel, she's expressed mixed emotions about the idea in the past. In 2018 she told PEOPLE she didn't think a second movie was likely at the time, but added, "If everyone did it, I would be up for it."

"I almost hope it doesn't [happen] because I think sometimes when you sequel everything kind of dilutes how special the original is," Blunt said.

Four years later, in an interview on The View, Blunt told the co-hosts that she “would do [a sequel] in a heartbeat just to play with those guys again.”

But one week prior, Hathaway shared with The View co-hosts that she didn’t know if there could be a sequel. "I just think that movie was in a different era, you know? Now, everything's gone so digital, and that movie centered around the concept of producing a physical thing,” said Hathaway. “It's just very different now."

"It is tempting to think about Andy and Emily needing to get Miranda her coffee and she's somewhere in Europe. And then along the way they pick up Stanley Tucci in Italy, who's at a restaurant. It's tempting, but I don't think it's gonna happen," she continued.

Hathaway did suggest rebooting the movie with a new cast.

In 2021, director David Frankel told Entertainment Weekly that the studio "didn't ask for" a sequel, but revealed that the filmmakers had a meeting where they toyed with the idea. "We said, 'What could we do if there was a sequel?' Maybe it was stupid; we felt like, no, this story has been told."
