Fire assistance for Yellow Quill First Nation came from emergency response team

Assistance for a recent house fire on the Yellow Quill First Nation was provided by a provincial emergency response team, the chief of the community says.

The fire took place Feb. 28 around mid-afternoon. One person who was in the home was able to get out safely but needed treatment for smoke inhalation and minor fire-related injuries. He was treated in hospital in Kelvington and released.

On Friday, Chief Felix Thomas said a service known as the provincial emergency management and fire safety rapid response team, based out of Prince Albert, provided help in extinguishing the fire.

"We are relieved they responded and no one was injured," Thomas said Friday. He also that the community does not have a functional fire department nor do they have an agreement for fire services with neighbouring communities.
