Highway 400 closed after fatal crash on icy roads

Highway 400 is closed in both directions and will remain closed for much of the morning commute after a fatal crash early Thursday involving a tractor-trailer on icy roads.

Highway 400 has the following closures:

- Southbound: Mapleview Drive to Highway 89.

- Northbound: Highway 88 to Mapleview Drive.

The crash happened north of Highway 89 near Innisfil at about 2:15 a.m.

Sgt Kerry Schmidt told CP24 the northbound truck lost control on the slippery surface and "punched through" the centre wall and struck the southbound Mustang. He said the woman in the car was pronounced dead at the scene.
Her name and age have not yet been released.

The driver of the truck suffered minor injuries.

Schmidt said a "bunch of cement has been pushed out into the southbound lanes" and it will take most of the morning to clean up.

He said other transport trucks were involved in similar collisions just north of the accident scene due to slick road conditions..
