Ice too thin for people, coyotes OK for now
The ice is thin on Regina's Wascana Lake, so people — and perhaps coyotes, too — should stay off.
Several days of above-zero temperatures mean an end to many winter activities.
Wascana Centre Authority is warning everyone to stay off the ice as the melt continues.
It may also mean soggy days ahead for the coyotes that regularly spend the winter on the islands in the lake, shuttling back and forth for food.
Jeff Cowan sent CBC News a video of a coyote crossing the ice — with little difficulty, apparently — on Sunday morning.
Rescue in Prince Albert area
Meanwhile, the warm-up is creating danger everywhere, including the Prince Albert area.
Lyle Karasiuk, a spokesperson for Parkland Ambulance, says his paramedics were involved in rescues in Prince Albert this weekend.
"This time of year, as one can appreciate, if you were to fall into that icy cold water, hypothermia is going to set in very, very quickly," he said.
