Married couple, 2nd man charged in $300K drug bust

A married couple and another man are facing multiple charges after police seized marijuana, hash and $115,000 in cash at a St. John's home Wednesday.

Royal Newfoundland Constabulary and RCMP members of the Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit (CFSEU-NL) made the bust on a search warrant in the city's east end.

Sharon Jeans, 59, and Stephen Jeans, 61, were arrested at the residence, along with 59-year-old Kenneth Bannister.

Police seized 20 kilograms of hashish, about nine kilograms of marijuana and $115,000 in cash.

All three are facing charges of possession and possession for the purpose of trafficking of both marijuana and resin.

Sharon Jeans is a former worker with the College of the North Atlantic Qatar campus, and previously worked with the Newfoundland and Labrador Liquor Corporation.

Her husband Stephen Jeans has been retired for a number of years, but a social networking website says he is the president of a company at the couple's home at 33 Parliament Street.

The website says the company called Ashtree Ltd. is a personal service company founded in 2001, with more than $49,000 in annual revenue.

Less is known about Bannister and police said none of the three accused were known to police until they received information and started Operation Typhoon just a week ago.

All three of the accused have been released from custody. They are due back in court Nov. 30.
