Charlottetown set a record for rainfall Monday, with Environment Canada recording 39.4 millimetres of rain.

That is the most rain on record for an August 8, and bettered the previous record by nearly 20 millimetres. There was even more rain at North Cape, a total of 50.5 millimetres, but records are only kept for Charlottetown.

Monday was the wettest day of the summer so far. Since May 1 it has rained on 63 of 100 days in Charlottetown.

Environment Canada is forecasting above average rainfall for the remainder of the summer and into the fall.
