Nirmala Naidoo leaves CBC Calgary

Nirmala Naidoo has hosted CBC News Calgary's supper-hour TV show since June 2009.

Longtime Calgary broadcaster Nirmala Naidoo has left the CBC.

The award-winning journalist joined the public broadcaster in 2009 as the anchor of the CBC News Calgary supper-hour show.

In an email to staff this morning, managing director Al Thorgeirson said Naidoo had “indicated her desire to move on from CBC Calgary to pursue new opportunities.”

“We thank Nirmala for her commitment to CBC News Calgary for the time she was in the host's chair,” wrote Thorgeirson in a public statement.

Naidoo has worked as a journalist for two decades, covering a variety of stories including the Gulf War, British Elections and IRA bombings.

Naidoo also worked as a journalist for CBC Television in Regina, Sask.

“We will continue our unwavering commitment to local television news as we search for a new host,” wrote Thorgeirson.
