Pharmacist arrested again after guilty pleas

Ann Marie Burke in court in St. John's on Oct. 5.

A week after pleading guilty to drug trafficking charges, a St. John’s pharmacist has been arrested again.

Ann Marie Burke pleaded guilty Oct.5 to five drug charges, including three possession charges involving oxycodone, morphine and marijuana and two trafficking charges involving methadone and ritalin.

The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary confirmed Tuesday Burke was picked up on four violations of her bail conditions.

Police allege Burke, 55, failed to keep promises to keep the peace and to stay away from alcohol on Oct. 9.

Burke will remain in custody Tuesday for a psychiatric assessment. She is expected to return to court on Wednesday.

Burke, who worked at Downtown Pharmacy on Water Street, was originally taken into custody in January on charges of drug possession and trafficking, following a year-long police investigation.

As a pharmacist, she was involved in dispensing methadone to people addicted to narcotics.

Burke is scheduled to return to court for a sentencing hearing for the drug charges in November.
