Sask. man charged with sexual assault was a teacher

A Swift Current, Sask., man who has been charged with sexual assault was a teacher at a local middle school.

Klaus B. Froese, 52, had worked until recently at O.M. Irwin Middle School, which is part of the Chinook School Division, school officials confirmed to CBC News over the weekend.

Froese is no longer employed with the school division, officials said.

The man was charged last week, following an RCMP investigation that began on Dec. 6.

Froese has already been released on conditions that include avoiding schools and playgrounds, and not contacting the alleged victim or any potential witnesses.

Froese is scheduled to make a court appearance in February in Swift Current.

Earlier this week, police said they expect a publication ban to be imposed when the case goes to court, since the alleged victim is under the age of 18.
