Semi-truck unstuck at entrance to High Level bridge

The driver of a semi-truck who crashed into the streetcar trolly bridge at the north end of the High Level bridge will be fired, says a manager with Western Logistics, the company she was driving for.

The truck, which was transporting office furniture, became stuck when the driver attempted to drive underneath the trestle on Tuesday morning.

Dave Baker, terminal manager for Western Logistics in Edmonton said the driver was hired two weeks ago and had six months of training. He said the $30,000 trailer is destroyed.

The driver had become confused, he said, and ended up taking a route she was not supposed to take.

City engineers have assessed the bridge and have deemed that the crash did not cause structural damage.

During Tuesday morning's commute traffic was blocked in the area as drivers could not access the west entrance to the bridge.

The truck was removed in the early afternoon.

After CBC News shared a picture of the crash site, Edmontonians took to Twitter en masse to share their thoughts:
