Thief breaks into Quidi Vidi Brewery, arrested 1 minute away

A thief that stole beer and jewelry from a Quidi Vidi Village brewery in St. John's didn't get very far before a police dog caught up with him.

Sometime after 11 p.m. Thursday, a man used an axe to break the window of a side door of Quidi Vidi Brewery Company, and allegedly stole beer and jewelry.

In the process, the thief smashed the glass of the unlocked gift shop case to get to the jewelry.

A Royal Newfoundland Constabulary K-9 unit tracked the suspect down one minute down the road in a home in Quidi Vidi Village.

A 26-year-old man was arrested and charged with break, enter and theft, and a breach of probation.
