Fatal taxi, tractor-trailer crash kills 2 in Mississauga

Two people are dead after a tractor-trailer slammed into the rear-end of a taxi cab in north Mississauga early on Saturday morning.

Emergency crews were called to the intersection of Hurontario Street and Derry Road at 4:14 a.m.

They found a Crown Victoria fully engulfed in flames.

The vehicle’s two occupants died from their injuries.

Police have not identified the victims.

The collision took place in the middle of the intersection, but crews found the burning car about 100 metres away from the site of the crash, said Const. Thomas Ruttan of the Peel Regional Police.

The intersection was closed on Saturday morning for a police probe.

Witnesses are asked to call Peel Regional Police at 905-453-3311.

"Every bit of information that we gain from people who witnessed this collision is going to help us in the investigation," Ruttan said.
