U of R, U of S improve in magazine's annual ranking

Saskatchewan's universities do not lead the nation, but are improving, Maclean's magazine's annual university ranking says.

According to the this year's version of the annual report released Thursday, the University of Regina is ranked ninth out of 15 "comprehensive" universities surveyed. That's an improvement over last year, when the U of R was in the 10th spot.

The comprehensive category includes universities that do research and have a wide range of undergraduate and graduate degrees, including professional degrees.

For the University of Saskatchewan, the story is virtually identical. In the medical/doctoral university ranking, the U of S came in ninth, a move up from last year, when it was tied for 10th.

The report looks at a wide range of measures to determine the rankings, including student-instructor ratios, faculty awards, research dollars, internal finances and library spending.
