Windsor-Detroit bridge bill headed to Mich. Senate
Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder is preparing to send a bill to the state legislature authorizing the new bridge between Detroit and Windsor, says a Canadian government official keeping a close watch on the border file.
The draft bill could be ready before the end of the week, and if passed it would create a bridge authority to hire a contractor to build and operate the bridge.
The bill also forbids the use of state tax dollars to fund Michigan's portion of the project.
The Canadian government has already offered to pay the state's $550 million share to construct the bridge. Canada would recoup those costs from toll revenues.
