Benner Park stabbing: police seek distinct purse

If you see this purse anywhere in the GTA, call police.

Detectives say the distinct Liebeskind dark green leather purse could belong to a woman who was stabbed and robbed by two men in Benner Park, just south of the Glencairn subway station, Thursday night.

The 24-year-old woman was rushed to hospital, where she remains on Friday. Police said she’s still not well enough to give a thorough interview about what happened to her. That’s why they’re hoping the purse will turn up a new lead.

"It could end up anywhere," said 13 Division Staff Sgt. Mandeep Mann, adding it may even be passed off as a holiday gift.

Detectives hope recovering the purse could glean some DNA evidence to identify the two male suspects who attacked the victim from behind.

Anyone who finds it "could be in a position to contact us right away," Mann said.

Police are still canvassing for video surveillance from the area and are urging anyone who may have witnessed anything suspicious in the area to contact them.

The stabbing happened just after 10:30 p.m. ET.

The victim sustained a stab wound to her abdomen, but managed to call her boyfriend before losing consciousness, and he alerted paramedics.

The suspects are described as male, in their mid-teens to mid-twenties. They fled the scene on foot.

Police are asking anyone with potentially helpful information to call 416-808-1300 or leave an anonymous tip with Crime Stoppers.
