At least one person is dead and three are injured after a portion of a roof collapsed at a Texas high school Tuesday, school officials said.

Three construction workers were transported to local hospitals after the roof above a gym at Friendswood High School collapsed while under construction, Friendswood Independent School District said in a statement on Facebook.

The incident happened around 4:30 p.m. local time, ABC 13 reported. One worker was pronounced dead at the scene, the station said.

The school district said there were no students or staff in the area when the roof collapsed. “Friendswood High School will remain closed to all until further notice,” the school district said.

USA TODAY has reached out to the district and the Friendswood Volunteer Fire Department for more information.
