1 dead in Lee’s Summit crash on Interstate 470: Missouri State Highway Patrol
One person died Thursday afternoon in a single-vehicle crash on Interstate 470 in Lee’s Summit, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
Police said the driver of a car crashed into a bridge pillar in the northbound lanes of I-470 at Woods Chapel Road. The car caught fire after crashing, police said.
Witnesses to the crash pulled the driver from the fiery wreck and performed CPR until paramedics arrived, the patrol said on Twitter.
The driver was pronounced dead at the hospital. Police did not immediately release the person’s identity as next-of-kin notifications were still being made.
The crash remained under investigation by the patrol late Thursday afternoon.
Traffic was congested on the interstate Thursday afternoon as some drivers were diverted off the interstate. All lanes were reopened by around 4:45 p.m.
