1 dead in semi truck collision east of Calgary
One person is dead after a collision involving three semi trucks on Highway 1 just east of Calgary.
A semi hauling a herbicide collided with two other semi trucks parked on the shoulder of the road about 3 a.m. on Friday, Chestermere RCMP said in a release.
Emergency crews remained at the scene and traffic on both westbound lanes near Range Road 282 was being rerouted through Chestermere at midday.
Motorists were being asked to avoid the area.
An RCMP collision reconstructionist and the Criminal Collision Investigation Team (CCIT) are working with the Chestermere and Strathmore RCMP detachments on the investigation.
Alberta Environment crews have been dispatched to clean up the herbicide.
