1-year-old boy fighting for his life after falling in backyard pool, Indiana cops say

A 1-year-old boy is fighting for his life after he nearly drowned in a backyard pool, Indiana deputies said.

Police say the child, named Ayko, fell into the pool shortly before 9 a.m. May 3, according to incident records.

The toddler was taken to an Evansville hospital with life-threatening injuries, deputies told WFIE, but he was later taken to an out-of-town hospital.

His family says he is making “positive progress,” according to Vanderburgh County Sheriff Noah Robinson.

“Ayko is still intubated but breathing on his own this morning,” his family said in a May 6 GoFundMe update.

Evansville is about a 175-mile drive southwest of Indianapolis.
