11-year-old calls 911, says dad is ‘intoxicated’ and trying to fight him, WI cops say

An 11-year-old boy called police to report being abused by his father, leading to an early-morning standoff lasting more than three hours, Wisconsin police said.

The Fond du Lac County Communications Center received a 911 call shortly after midnight on May 6 from an 11-year-old who said his father was “intoxicated” and had “started to fight” him, according to a Facebook post from the Fond du Lac Police Department.

Upon arriving at the residence, officers were met outside by the boy who was “dressed only in shorts and wrapped in a blanket with an observable injury,” police said.

The 31-year-old suspect, still inside the apartment, verbally threatened law enforcement when they made contact with him, warning them not to open the door, authorities said.

City and county SWAT and crisis negotiation teams were brought in to help remove three other children still inside the home with the man, according to police.

The standoff ended around 3:43 a.m., when the man exited the apartment with one child and then locked the door behind him, police said.

He was arrested, and law enforcement went inside the apartment to get the other two children out, according to police.

Authorities said the 11-year-old boy was taken to a local hospital for a “serious but non-life-threatening injury.” The other children were evaluated at the scene and were reported to have no injuries.

The suspect faces charges of child abuse and bail jumping, police said.
