An 11-year-old died after a ‘tragic’ ATV accident on the MS Coast, police confirm

An 11-year-old riding an ATV Saturday in Moss Point died in an accident after he swerved to avoid a car, Police Chief Brandon Ashley said.

The child, who authorities have not identified, died at Singing River Hospital, Ashley said.

The crash occurred Saturday on Griffin Street, according to Ashley. The child pulled out in front of a car, lost control and collided with a power pole, the police chief said.

The other vehicle swerved into a ditch and avoided hitting the ATV, Ashley said. The driver was not injured.

Ashley said the child was not wearing a helmet or other safety equipment.

Ashley called the death “tragic.” He said the child was visiting his father in Moss Point.

Fire, police and emergency responders tried to save the child at the scene before rushing him to the hospital, Ashley said.
