A 19-year-old arrested for murder in connection with first homicide of 2024 in Columbus

One man has been arrested and charged with murder in connection with the first homicide of 2024 in Columbus.

Columbus police said probable cause has been established to arrest and charge Devaris Binn, 19, with Murder and Armed Robbery in connection with the death of William Brown earlier this month.

Police said officers responded at 6:05 p.m. on Jan. 8 to the 2300 block of Fort Benning Road to reports of a shooting where they found Brown wounded.

Brown was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead later that day at 6:51 p.m., according to authorities.

Binn is scheduled to appear in Recorder’s Court on Tuesday at 9 a.m, according to police.
