19-year-old’s body found days after he floated away on tube in Texas lake, cops say
The body of a 19-year-old man has been recovered days after he went missing in a Texas lake.
Roiner Alejandro Rojas Pereira was floating on a tube when it drifted toward a water intake near the Canyon Lake Dam, according to an April 15 Facebook post by the Comal County Sheriff’s Office.
Pereira couldn’t swim and began screaming for help when he fell off the tube, according to KSAT.
“He’s screaming in Spanish, ‘help me’ and, like, waving his arms. And then he goes underwater and like, we can’t see him anymore,” family friend Ana Palencia told the outlet
A witness tried to swim to Pereira to help, but he went under the water and didn’t resurface, officials said.
On April 20, officials released an update saying Pereira’s body was recovered by Texas Parks and Wildlife Game Wardens. His body was found near the area he was last seen.
He was described by Palencia as calm and hardworking, and along with his brother would send money back to his father in South America, KSAT reported.
