Two Ontario MPs are facing backlash online after a copy and paste error snowballed into a social media blunder.

On Thursday, many Liberal MPs took to their Facebook pages to show support for the LGBTQ community, all posting the same message about diversity, inclusion and equality with the hashtag #IDAHOT, which was meant to highlight the International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia andBiphobia.

But not every MP remembered to edit the template to suit their individual riding. Some posted on Facebook without taking out the “[riding name]” and the Internet soon caught wind of it.

Julie Dzerowicz of Toronto’s Davenport riding posted the unedited text by linking to a post by Prime Minister Justiin Trudeau.

Some people poked fun at the blunder by mocking the copy and paste job with posts of their own.

While others took exception with the gaffe.

Dzerowicz eventually edited the post to include her riding, and also commented herself, offering an apology over the neglect she showed her community.

While Dzerowicz got most of the heat, MP Kyle Peterson of Newmarket-Aurora appeared to make the same error when he neglected to mention his riding north of Toronto. The mistake didn’t get much attention, but it was captured in a screenshot by Buzzfeed News and noted by an iPolitics reporter.
