Police identify 2 men, 1 woman killed in city's northwest on Saturday
Toronto police have confirmed the identities of three deceased people after an incident in the city's northwest area Saturday afternoon.
Police say 64-year-old Joao Barcelos and 59-year-old Iva Barcelos, a married couple, were stabbed to death by their son.
Joao was found suffering from multiple stab wounds on the street outside his home on 19 King George Road just after 2:30 p.m., while Iva was found with multiple stab wounds inside the house. Police say Joao and Iva were husband and wife and were pronounced dead at the scene.
The third person has been identified as 28-year-old Tiberio Barcelos, the stabbing victims' son. Tiberio is suspected of stabbing his parents to death before he was fatally struck by the Union-Pearson Express train near Weston station.
Tiberio did not live at the house at the time of the incident and police are urging anyone who knew of his whereabouts before the stabbings to come forward.
'I couldn't sleep': residents react
Adedotun Odujirin lives in the neighbourhood where the stabbing happened. He was home at the time of the incident.
"It was very frightening because it was literally a few metres away," said Odujirin.
His mom said they didn't know the victims or those involved well but she is in shock that something like this happened on their street.
"I couldn't sleep because come on, it's very close to home," she said.
Officers say they not looking for any additional suspects.
"As it stands now, this is a contained incident," Toronto police spokesperson Det. Sgt. Andy Singh said on Saturday. "We don't believe there is any threat to the community."
Police are urging anyone who may have relevant information to contact Division 12.
