2-year-old dies in Wake County after sustaining drowning injuries in pool

A 2-year-old died after drowning in a pool Tuesday morning, the Wake County Sheriff’s Office said.

Sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of a drowning at a private residence in eastern Wake County, between Knightdale and Zebulon, about 9:45 a.m. Upon arrival, they found the child, who had already been rescued from a pool.

Wake County emergency medical services transported the child to a hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The Sheriff’s Office reported the child’s death Tuesday evening.

“The entire Wake County Sheriff’s Office extends our deepest condolences to the family during this tragic time,” Wake County Sheriff Willie Rowe said in the release.

The Sheriff’s Office is investigating the drowning.
