• They were found dead just a three-miniute walk from one another

Two Indiana women were found slain at two locations on the same street just days apart, and the nature of those attacks have striking similarities, according to accounts provided by authorities.
Shannon Lassere, 58, was found dead on Jan. 27 and Marianne Weis, 52, was found dead on Feb. 1, both near a strip mall in Indianapolis, Ind., the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) confirms to PEOPLE.
The circumstances of the killings have a “number of commonalities,” IMPD said in a statement on Friday.
The victims were both White women in their 50’s who were “killed in the same manner,” said the statement. While the statement doesn't specify how the women were killed, Lassere's son, Justin Smith, told WTHR she was stabbed to death.
The two killings took place within a three-minute walk from each other, per the addresses provided in the statement. The area has some residences across from the small strip mall.
Authorities said there is no evidence linking the two incidents but IMPD is “taking proactive steps out of an abundance of caution,” per the statement.
Lassere was found allegedly stabbed to death outside a dental facility by someone who works at a nearby store, FOX 59 reported.
It’s unclear whether the killing took place that morning or earlier.

It isn’t clear whether the women knew each other or if there is a person of interest in the killings. On Monday, IMPD declined to comment on these questions and told PEOPLE there are no further updates to share.
Family members and the local community remain concerned.
Donna Spears, a resident in the area, told WTHR that she is scared about the situation and is considering not walking as much as she normally does.
"The age kind of looks similar. It's just too coincidental," Spears told the outlet.
“I feel like there is somebody out here doing something,” Smith, Lassere's son, told FOX 59. “It’s not a coincidence. Something’s wrong.”
Nearby businesses declined to comment when contacted on Monday.
