Here are the 2024 Lexington All-City girls basketball teams and player of the year

The Lexington Herald-Leader and Kentucky.com are proud to present the 2024 All-City girls high school basketball teams and player of the year as voted on by the nine coaches of Lexington’s varsity KHSAA programs.

The girls Lexington Player of the Year goes to Ayanna-Sarai Darrington of Frederick Douglass, a 6-foot-2 forward signed with Central Michigan. Darrington averaged a double-double for the Broncos with 15.3 points and 11.4 rebounds per game this season in helping Douglass win the 42nd District title and reach the 11th Region finals.

Darrington received seven of the possible eight first-place votes available to her with teammate Niah Rhodes and Henry Clay’s Timarri Miller each garnering one top player vote each.

The nine varsity girls basketball coaches in Lexington were asked to nominate players for All-City consideration. Later, the coaches were asked to rank, one through 10, their top players from that list of nominees. They were not permitted to vote for their own players.

Point values were assigned to each voting position (10 points for first-place votes, nine points for second-place votes, etc.) and the accumulation of those points was used to create the first and second teams. Per tradition, each team is limited to three all-city honorees. First-team honorees are listed with voting totals plus first-place votes in parentheses.
