The Texas Rangers will be hosting the 2024 MLB All-Star weekend, including the opening night of the baseball draft, according to Major League Baseball.
The 94th Midsummer Classic will be played at Globe Life Field on July 16 and the Metroplex will host all-star weekend from July 12-16. The opening night of the 2024 MLB Draft would take place at the Fort Worth Stockyards on July 14.
In a statement, Fort Worth mayor Mattie Parker said she was excited to give MLB fans a taste of Texas.
“Fort Worth and Arlington are powerhouses for hosting major sporting events together,” said Parker. “I am thrilled that our cities are partnering to welcome the 2024 MLB All-Star Week to the region. It is an honor to kick off the MLB Draft in Fort Worth’s Historic Stockyards, an entertainment district unlike anywhere else in the country. Visiting baseball fans will get to experience the unexpected sights, sounds and flavors that are truly Texas.”
Jason Sands, executive director of the Fort Worth Sports Commission, said hosting the draft presented Fort Worth with a special opportunity.
“Hosting an event of this caliber is a defining moment for our city,” said Sands, “This event provides us with a unique platform to showcase the vibrant sports culture and hospitality of Fort Worth to baseball fans across the nation.”
The MLB will host the draft during the all-star weekend for the fourth consecutive year.
Most all-star weekend events will take place at Globe Life Field including the following: The HBCU Swingman Classic on July 12., the All-Star Futures Game and All-Star Celebrity Softball on All-Star Saturday on July 13., and the Home Run Derby on July 15.
Choctaw Stadium will host the Capital One All-Star Village on July 13., a fan event that will include legendary players and be hosted at the former home of the Texas Rangers.
This will be the first time the Rangers have hosted an all-star weekend since 1995.
