24-year-old found dead in river after vanishing during swim with friends, MS cops say

A 24-year-old man was found dead after he vanished while swimming with friends in Mississippi, news outlets report.

Marcos Mendoza was in the Pearl River with two others around 4 p.m. Thursday, May 18, when he went missing, WLBT reported. Flowood police told WAPT that a swift current pulled him under the water.

His friends also struggled against the current, WJTV reported, but they were able to make it to shore.

Crews began searching the area, but the current and debris made their efforts difficult, officials told the outlet.

Nearly two days after he went missing, Mendoza’s body was found at the bottom of the river just after noon Saturday, May 20, police told Magnolia State Live.

Authorities worked to recover his body from the river on Saturday, WLBT reported.

No other information had been released as of Sunday, May 21.

Flowood is just outside of Jackson.
