‘3 Body Problem’ New Trailer: ‘Game of Thrones’ Creators Lead Netflix’s Time Travel Epic
Netflix’s latest epic series is from the creators behind “Game of Thrones” and “True Blood.”
The decades-spanning “3 Body Problem” is set to debut at the 2024 SXSW Film & TV Festival, with “Game of Thrones” showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, plus “True Blood” executive producer Alexander Woo, as the creators of the series. Based on the novel “The Three-Body Problem” and trilogy series “Remembrance of Earth’s Past,” the mystery series connects 1960s China to a present day case.

The series follows a young woman whose fateful decision in 1960s China reverberates across space and time into the present day. When the laws of nature inexplicably unravel before their eyes, a close-knit group of brilliant scientists join forces with an unorthodox detective to confront the greatest threat in humanity’s history, per the official synopsis.
The cast includes Jovan Adepo, John Bradley, Rosalind Chao, Liam Cunningham, Eiza González, Jess Hong, Marlo Kelly, Alex Sharp, Sea Shimooka, Zine Tseng, Saamer Usmani, Benedict Wong, and Jonathan Pryce, many of whom also starred in “Game of Thrones.”
The series will be accompanied by an official “3 Body Problem” podcast hosted by entertainment superfan Jason Concepcion and scientist, educator, and television presenter Dr. Maggie Aderin-Pocock.
The eight-episode show will be set in China, Oxford, the United Nations in New York, and the Panama Canal.
Showrunners Benioff, Weiss, and Woo are co-creators, executive producers, and writers of the series. “Game of Thrones” producer Bernadette Caulfield also executive produces. Derek Tsang and Andrew Stanton will direct and co-executive produce, with Jeremy Podeswa and Minkie Spiro also directing.
Director Rian Johnson executive-produces the series, along with Ram Bergman and Nena Rodrigue for production company T-Street. Brad Pitt, Jeremy Kleiner, and Dede Gardner executive produce for Brad Pitt’s Plan B Entertainment, with “Gone Girl” and “Saltburn” actress Rosamund Pike and Robie Uniacke executive producing for Primitive Streak.
