3 more seniors homes off-limits due to flu

Eastern Health has closed another three long-term care facilities to visitors because of an increase in cases of the flu and flu-like illnesses.

They include the Harbour Lodge Nursing Home in Carbonear, as well as the Caribou Memorial Veterans Pavilion and St. Patrick's Mercy Home, both in St. John's.

Eastern Health recently closed several other long-term care homes for the same reason. The affected facilities are located in Clarke's Beach, Bell Island and Placentia, as well as the Hoyles Escasoni Complex in St. John's.

In addition, the health authority has restricted visitation to immediate family members only at Saint Luke’s Home in St. John’s due to incidents of gastrointestinal illness.

Members of the general public are being asked not to visit any health-care facility if they have flu-like or gastrointestinal symptoms.
