49-year-old woman killed in Cape Breton house fire

A 49-year-old woman died Tuesday morning in a house fire in Glencoe, N.S.

Inverness District RCMP said in a news release that a 56-year-old man survived the blaze by escaping from an upstairs bedroom. He was taken to hospital and has been released.

The woman died in the home, police said.

Glencoe is about 17 kilometres southeast of Mabou, Cape Breton.

The Mounties were called to the fire at 7:20 a.m. The Mabou Fire Department and Emergency Health Services were at scene when police arrived.

Both occupants of the house were residents of Glencoe, police said.

An RCMP officer said Tuesday afternoon the cause of the fire is under investigation and it has not been called suspicious. The Office of the Fire Marshal is also involved in the investigation.
