This 5-star Gamecock could be most exciting player in new college football video game

EA Sports’ newest college football video game is coming in 2024 — and one South Carolina football player could be among the most exciting possible parts of the new game.

Robbie Weinstein of 247Sports compiled a list of 10 players fans should be most excited to use when EA Sports re-launches its popular college football video game franchise next year. The list included Gamecocks signee Nyckoles Harbor, a five-star recruit in the 2023 class and the most significant player to sign with USC since head coach Shane Beamer took over in December 2020.

Weinstein wrote: “The freakiest of athletic freaks from the 2023 class, Harbor is going to pop off the TV screen both in real life and in the video game as an absolutely massive player at wide receiver or flex tight end for South Carolina. Harbor — listed at 6-foot-5, 225 pounds — is also a track star who could be one of the SEC’s fastest wideouts from the get-go. That’s absurd.

“Who is going to cover this guy? In the game, spamming Harbor on back-shoulder fades should produce consistent results. And he can go deep, too.”

Harbor was rated the No. 15 player and No. 1 athlete in the 2023 class, per the 247 Sports Composite. The Archbishop Carroll (Washington, D.C.) standout played both edge and tight end during his high school career, but is expected to line up at receiver with the Gamecocks.

He’s expected to enroll at USC In June and take part in summer workouts.

South Carolina fans will also see Harbor run track at the college level. Harbor is among the top sprinters in the country at the high school level and has aspirations of running in the Olympics.

EA Sports last released a college football video game in 2014, but had paused the franchise amid concerns over name, image and likeness and players previously not being able to benefit off their likenesses being in the game.

ESPN reported last week that EA Sports is working with OneTeam Partners to provide payment to players for the usage of their likenesses in the new video game, though the exact details of what those payments could entail are still being ironed out.
