‘60 Minutes’ will feature a segment about Beaufort County this Sunday. Here’s why

Sunday’s “60 Minutes” broadcast on CBS will feature a segment about the “battle to ban 97 books” in Beaufort County schools, according to the Paramount website.

Correspondent Scott Pelley followed “the role played by the national movement for ‘parental rights’ inspired by a group called Moms for Liberty.” The segment also will cover community opposition and is slated to air March 3 from 7 to 8 p.m. on CBS. Once episodes air, they can be found on the Paramount Plus streaming website.

After multiple review committees, school board meetings, an incident of chicken feed being thrown at school board members and the book ban movement harassing teachers, five of the 97 books were banned from Beaufort County schools. They are:

  • “Beautiful” by Amy Reed

  • “The Haters” by Jesse Andrews

  • “Nineteen Minutes” by Jodi Picoult

  • “It Ends With Us” by Colleen Hoover

  • “Forever for a Year” by B.T. Gottfried

The banned books account for about 5% of the 97 books Superintendent Frank Rodriguez pulled from school libraries in October 2022 for review.
